Beauty: On A Budget

Hey guys! I’m back today to share with some of the beauty lovers in the bloggesphere (?!) While I wouldn’t say that I’m a high maintenance kinda gal, I do like makeup. I can appreciate a fresh face and accentuated facial features. I tend to go for the more subtle looks that work for both day and night. Makeup can be fun, in my opinion, if it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg! There always seems to be a beauty debate about high-end products vs. drugstore products. Yes, some department store brands carry better lipstick than those you find at (insert local drug store here), but I’ve often found many exceptions to this rule. One of my favorite money-saving techniques when buying makeup is finding “dupes” of high-end brands at my local drugstore. These are some of my go – to products that are ALWAYS in my makeup bag. They are wonderful products that are accessible, affordable and have yet to let me down! Annnd I gotta say, it definitely helps that they are easy on the wallet!

Essence Gel Eye Pencil: waterproof and beats the other more expensive brands with its lush finish that clings to lids and is extremely long lasting! Great bang for your buck.

e.l.f . Studio Baked Eyeshadow Palettes: are just beautiful! This is “California” annnd it just so happens to look VERY similar to Sephora’s “MoonShadow” Palette AND is also the perfect dupe for Urban Decay’s “NAKED” Palette!! It’s versatile, has great pigmentation, and is long lasting. Some of the negative reviews claim that they could not get any pigment out of this shadow. The problem is not with the product, but with the method. It’s BAKED EYESHADOW and it doesn’t work the same as regular shadow!  You CAN apply it dry for a subtle sparkle, but the best way to use it is with a wet eyeshadow brush. I guarantee you’ll see some (probably A LOT of) pigment if you do this. I haven’t bought this palette, but I have bought e.l.f.’s individual baked shadows and they are gorgeous. When applied wet, baked eyeshadows have a very pigmented, shiny, metallic look. The colour on the top left  is awesome for highlighting under brows and in the corners of your eyes. I included a swatch of e.l.f.’s baked eyeshadow in “Pixie”. Wet application on the left, dry on the right. Quite the difference!

Essence “I Love Extreme Volume” Mascara: I LOVE this mascara! It adds volume, while lengthening. The brush is great for definition and separation and it applies evenly – so no clumping! The deep-black, creamy texture covers each individual lash with color and the extra-large plastic brush provides sensational volume.

Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Lip Balm in “Strike a Rose” : The best pigmented lip balm I’ve used yet! Protects and moisturizes for a full 8 hours. I’ve also had visibly renewed lips in 1 week.  It has a pleasant scent too. Not exactly NEON in it’s colouring (“Electro”?), but it’s still a gorgeous shade of pink. I’m completely hooked on BabyLips and totally love all the colours available.

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in “Nude Delight” :  Great dupe for MAC lipstick in “Freckletone” . This is the best nude lipstick that I have ever come across, and it is super affordable. It is very moisturizing (it reduces lip dryness by up to 65% with vitamins A, C, and E!) and slightly opaque but with a little bit of sheer to it as well. It’s gorgeous and would compliment a variety of skin tones. You can purchase at Walmart, Target or anywhere Rimmel products are sold. You won’t be disappointed!

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream: Light/Medium. Sheer coverage, dewy finish. No dry spots. Minimally dry with mattifying powder under. Great for young skin and dry skin! If you’re new to BB cream I highly recommend it! It’s light and fresh-feeling (like a tinted moisturizer, really) and instantly blurs imperfections and evens skin tone. It smoothes, hydrates, brightens, and has the protection of SPF 30.  And all without oils or heavy ingredients. 🙂

L’Oreal True Match Super-Blendable Blush in “Baby Blossom” : Great substitute for my Benefit Dandelion Blush (which I do splurge on occasionally!) when I don’t feel like spending major bucks on a blush. It’s light, soft, and makes for a natural face brightener.

Rimmel Natural Bronzer “Sun Bronze” : Is THE BOMB on a dime! Made with natural minerals. Perfect bronzer, whether you’re creating a new glow, or perking up an existing tan. Also the best contouring powder; it’s light, matte and easily blendable.  It’s a great dupe for Nars Bronzing Powder in “Laguna” and a fraction of the price!

So there you have it, Beauty Budget Babes. 😉  Please, do yourselves a favour and don’t go breaking the bank when you’re looking to enhance your natually beautiful self! It’s clearly not necessary! And, I think the best part about these products up above is that no matter what your skin tone, you’re bound to find the colours that work for you.

Thanks so much for taking a minute to check out my favourite products!  Drop me a comment to let me know what budget friendly picks you have grown to love!  I’m always up for trying something new.
