Harvest Home

I mentioned how Fall is my favourite season, and this year in our new home I wasted absolutely no time getting our seasonal decor out!

Fall Decor

The coffee table has an easy peasy centrepiece on it: a basket filled with various potpourri. A candle Wrapped in birch bark is in the centre surrounded by cinnamon sticks, pinecones, chestnuts, acorns, birch branches, grapevine balls and the ends of ornamental fall grasses.

Also in the living room we have a antique steamer trunk that we’ve been using as a side table. I put out a framed chalkboard printable that I found on Nest of Posies – which I LOVE! The font she chose is so pretty and it has everything I love most about the Fall season written on it. The trunk also has a few frames on it with various pictures of us, a lantern holding a candle, some Indian corn, and my ceramic pumpkin tea light holder from Bath & BodyWorks (which smells ahhhmazing)!

The dining room table has a glass apothecary jar filled with layers of split peas, corn, and navy beans. A candle is in the middle and wrapped around with some twine there’s a lovely autumn leaf tying in the colours from the orangey corn and greenish peas. 🙂

Our coffee station has also been Fall-ified! A burlap runner covers the top, and cinnamon sticks and brown sugar have been added for lattes and cappuccinos. I also found this printable from the blog, The Diary of Dave’s Wifeto get it ready for the pumpkin spice season!! I just hope to still gather some crab apples from the tree in our backyard and add them in a bushel off to the side of the cabinet/ hutch. Then also attempt to make some crab apple jam 😉 .

Beside the coffee nook I placed a wicker picnic basket and placed a rustic looking pumpkin and a bundle of wheat that I wrapped with twine.

My DIY chalkboard is above that, and I have yet to update that with something more autumnal. And then on the other wall in the dining room, there’s a shelf mounted. I placed some sunflowers in my designated wine bottle “vase” and have some corks under a wine glass, with of course, a candle placed on top of the stem. I hope to find something else little for that shelf – perhaps a cute owl or something!

I crafted this wine cork pumpkin the other day that I have yet to post a little tutorial about. It’s such a simple DIY! I hope to share it in a day or so.

So it’s still in the making, but it’s definitely beginning to look more Fall-like in our household! My next little project will be decorating our entrance with some seasonal elements. I currently only have a wreath hanging on our front door, but eager to head over to a local pumpkin patch soon for some pumpkins and mums to adorn our front steps!

*What do you do to decorate for the Fall? I’d love it if you would share your ideas with me!*

First Signs of Spring

The snow has begun to melt. Today, temperatures were above 0 (Celsius, here). The sun was out, I even had my some of our windows cracked open for a brief period of time! It really helped to freshen thing up. Music was cranked, did some “Spring Cleaning”…it was a productive day. Yesterday was daylight savings time and it’s so nice to have our longer evenings back again. It’s not dark right after supper!! 🙂 Spring will be here soon enough and the Winter blahs will be gone away!

We’re especially looking forward to this season because there are some exciting changes on the horizon. Matt will be graduating, and will start working in his new career as a firefighter. We both have birthdays in April, and Matt is turning the big 3-0 ! We are also moving in the next several weeks. Lots of changes ahead, a lot to be excited about! 🙂

I created a few printables to share. Feel free to print ’em! I sometimes frame mine and add mine around the house (see our home here and here) for some décor. I hope you enjoy them!

Nifty Gifty

Christmas time is here…Happiness and cheer… Charlie Brown anyone?! It’s that festive holiday season and I’m sure most of you have your shopping well underway. No? Haven’t even started yet?! Well, that’s ok. I haven’t either. Shhh – Don’t tell! 😉

I’m planning on making a few gifts this year, actually.  We have a budget that we’re wanting to stick to, yet, I have so many gifts I want to give! All I can say is, “thank goodness for Pinterest!” I have found so many great, creative ideas that have piqued my interest. They all seem relatively inexpensive and most of these DIY’s can be whipped up in no time! They’re great for stocking stuffers, for teachers, neighbours, etc…I wanted to share a few of my favourites with you!

Grown Up Hot Cocoa Kit:

Have mason jars laying around? Buy a couple bags of marshmallows, a few boxes of hot chocolate and some mini bottles of Baileys. Fill the jars, and tie the bottle to the lid with twine. You can even create tags if you want to personalize these gifts. Voila!

  Homemade Hand Scrub:

“A re’NEW’ing kind of gift” is what the blogger on the link refers to it as! 😉 I like it! In the Winter, my hands can get so dry. It’s an easy and thoughtful gift. All you need is a bag of sugar, couple bottles of Dawn Olay dish soap and some jam jars.

 Spa in a Jar:

Spa in a Jar

This is a cute, girly gift idea. Fill a jar with a nail polish, mini nail polish remover, cotton pads and a nail file. Most of these items could be purchased at the dollarstore. Add a bow/make a bow and there ya go! Just a nice gift to let someone know you were thinking of them and their “mistletoes” 😉

Thanks a Latte:

This is more of a unisex gift, which is nice, as I’ve found a lot of these DIY ideas tend to be more geared towards women. Print off a design from Picmonkey on cardstock, get a bunch of cup sleeves and buy a couple gift cards and treat people to a Starbucks bevy.

Cleans Up Well:

Grooming gift for men! Fill with products and tools. The blog link also includes printable labels for the jar.

 Christmas Hugs:

Pretzel Hugs

Pretzel hugs are a quick to make (and tasty to eat!) sweet and salty gift idea. Link includes printable tag for your jar!

We ‘Whisk’ You a Merry ‘Kiss’mas:

Whisk you a merry Kissmas

I love the play on words. Just another thoughtful, quick and inexpensive idea. Whisk, Hershey’s kisses, cellophane and a bow! Let your neighbours know you appreciate them this year. 🙂

 The Gift of Baked Goods:

Gift of baking

Doing any holiday baking this year? Why not share some of your treats? I just love how these cookies are wrapped! Cute thread, wax paper bags, tag and mini clothespin seal the deal.

I hope those ideas spark some gift giving inspiration in you! Being generous can be so rewarding, yet is often so expensive.  Consider thoughtful DIY gifts this year. Let’s give generously this Christmas season and spread Christmas cheer!

Stay tuned next week when I share stocking stuffer ideas for men!

So the holiday season is nearly upon us…ok, well maybe that’s a bit of a stretch, but it will definitely be here before we know it 😉 ! We’ve been getting some snow flurries off and on up where we are, and there’s definitely a chill in the air. Winter is soon approaching! I started my Christmas decorating around the house already for two reasons: 1) I absolutely LOVE the holiday season and everything that comes with it and 2) We are busy most weekends and have plans every single weekend until December and by that time it’s FAR too LATE to decorate 😉 ! So we (by we, I mean, Matt) pulled out our totes from up in the attic and I rummaged through them to see what I could use in our rental house. This is the first (and only) Christmas season that we will be in this location/at this house. I have so much fun organizing and setting everything out. It’s been kind of a fun little challenge to see where every piece will go as this place is smaller than our last. I enjoy making the most of it! We (and by we, I mean, I) had on some Christmas tunes and everything but our tree is out and in my opinion, looks great! I will be sure to post pictures eventually.

Anywho, I DID want to share with you a FREE Winter/Christmas chalkboard printable that I created. Keep in mind that this is my first one. I think it’s pretty cute. Chalkboards are all.the.rage and are constantly floating around Pinterest. I love ’em!! I think they’re a cute, affordable way to add character to your home. They are the perfect way to add a smile to your day, and you can keep them up all Winter long (not just for the Christmas season). I like to frame mine, but you can do whatever with them! You can have it printed out in a normal or poster size at Staples and frame it to look like a real chalkboard. It can be used in anyway you want, really. Cards, posters, tags, wall art…etc. I hope to make and share more of these as we approach December. I hope that you like it as much as I do :). So get your cardstock out and fire up those printers, folks.
